Deepening EMDR Clinical Nuances: Resourcing, Attachment Repair, and Advanced Trauma Processing

CE Hours 9.5

About this Course

In this Clinical Mastery Series product, participants will go beyond protocol basics to explore sophisticated interventions for complex clinical presentations and advanced trauma treatment. The curated course readings and paired videos offer in-depth frameworks for some of the most nuanced areas of EMDR practice, including advanced resourcing, attachment repair, creative interweaves, complex and developmental trauma treatment, and EMDR with children and families. Extensive sample clinical dialogues and video walkthroughs of therapeutic exercises equip participants with practical tools for treating trauma across diverse clinical settings and client populations. This course will help clinicians refine their clinical judgment, strengthen case conceptualization, and expand their skillset with advanced interventions for trauma treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • Select appropriate attachment-focused interventions for treating attachment wounds and developmental trauma.
  • Explain advanced options for resource development, including relational, somatic, symbolic, and developmental resources for complex trauma.
  • Describe creative uses of interweaves and adaptive information interventions when processing is blocked or looping, and prepare to adapt in the moment when a client isn’t responding to the protocol.
  • List developmentally informed activities to adapt the EMDR protocol for younger clients and prepare to introduce them to clients and families.
  • Apply sophisticated EMDR techniques to complex trauma presentations, such as dissociation, developmental deficits, and ego states.
  • Identify key characteristics of clients who may benefit from the creation of an ideal parent in attachment repair.
  • Assess signs of dissociation using sandtray work and adapt the preparation phase of EMDR treatment to the client’s level of dissociation.
  • Analyze sample client presentations to identify when a client can proceed to the next phase of treatment or when further intervention is needed.
  • Prepare strategies for therapeutic presence, coregulation, and mindful awareness during EMDR work to help clients build experiences of safety, nurturance, and internalized support.
